Arsenal sprung a late shock on Women's Super League (WSL) leaders Manchester City on Sunday, scoring twice after the 89th minute to win 2-1 at the Joie Stadium and reignite the division's title race.

City had looked comfortable for much of the game having taken the lead through England international Lauren Hemp in the 17th minute, but goals from Arsenal substitute Stina Blackstenius in the 89th and 92nd minute mean that Chelsea can have hope of retaining their title heading into the final weekend of the season.

Emma Hayes' team take on Bristol City later on Sunday in what will be the incoming United States women's national team coach's final home game with Chelsea.

Should Chelsea win their two games in hand on City, against Bristol and then Tottenham Hotspur in on May 15, they will be level on points heading into the final round of fixtures on May 18.

Man City had won 14 games in a row heading into the clash, and will now have to regroup against Aston Villa on the final day of the season. The do have a superior goal difference to Chelsea as it stands, with an advantage of seven goals.

Blackstenius said to BBC Sport after the game that the closing moments were a blur.

"I don't really know what happened," she said. "I am happy, but it was a tough game. I'm really proud how we came back and got the win in the end.

"We knew this was a big game for us. We haven't won here in four games so it was important for us to come here and win today."

The Sweden forward also scored a late winner for Arsenal against City in the reverse fixture earlier in the WSL season.

"I don't know, I just try to be in the situations and create something whenever I get the chance," she said when asked about her knack for big moments.

Man City manager Gareth Taylor said he is confident his team will recover from this untimely setback.

"We've always reacted well from negative results," he said.

"I thought it was tough on us today, a draw was probably a fair result. The girls will be fine. We wanted to be in control. We've lot a little bit of that but we still have one more game and we look forward to that."
